General Manager for a Flower Farm – Meru, Kenya

Our client, a prominent premium horticulture growing business located in Meru county, is looking for an experienced, hands on and dynamic General Manager. The successful candidate will be a key figure in the management and strategic development of the farm.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in the finance /administration /agricultural sector, a strategic, analytical mindset, and strong leadership capabilities to drive operational excellence in rose production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for the finance function within the company, including budget preparation and implementation.
  • Monitor financial performance against key performance indicators and budget targets
  • Evaluation of products in conjunction with MD and management team to select best suppliers.
  • Ensure systems are in place to check pricing and manage stock levels, as well as authorise purchase orders.
  • Oversight of all permits, statutory payments, land rates, licences etc as well as liaising with government bodies KRA, WRA, HCD, County Govt, KEPHIS etc.
  • Optimisation of systems – look at existing systems of data capture and analysis and suggest improvements.
  • Optimize operational processes to enhance efficiency and maintain the highest quality
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders, clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Act as a representative for the company in industry forums, conferences, and events.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and accountable culture.
  • Encourage professional growth and skill development among team members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role preferably within the agricultural or horticultural sector – minimum of 5 years.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful business strategies.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with sustainable agricultural practices is desirable.
  • Knowledge of international market requirements for floral exports is a plus.
  • Willing to relocate
