HR Manager for a Safari company – Nairobi, Kenya

Our client, an International Safari company is looking for a hands on and dynamic for its offices in Nairobi. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of an effective people partnering function that is aligned with departmental, regional and company strategic goals.  An essential element of the role includes the successful implementation of the HR Strategy, partnering with the business to find fit-for-purpose solutions that achieve the organisational goals and driving people capability across the business.  Building strong business partnerships, stakeholder engagement, trusted advisory and confidentiality, are crucial for the role. He/She needs to be a responsible, approachable and trusted individual who is seen as a “go to” person. Good understanding of the East African Safari tourism environment / hospitality is an added advantage.

Key Requirements:   

  • Development and on-going actioning of an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, key employee retention and development, and high performance
  • Partner with management to communicate HR policies, procedure, programs, and law, and drive the enforcement and implementation of these
  • Improve Talent Management & Performance Management systems and approach
  • Coach managers in their communication, feedback, recognition, and interaction responsibilities with the employees who report to them
  • Conduct investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth
  • Maintains the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions
  • Prepares employees by establishing and conducting on-boarding, orientation and training programs
  • Recommending benefits / reward programs to management
  • Ownership of and accountability for the full recruitment process for management roles, from coordinating job descriptions and dealing with recruitment agencies to interview processes and closing. As well as assist managers with any requirements for the termination of any employee contracts
  • Provide regular support to the Group HR

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manager position in HR / training / people development
  • Excellent communication skills across cultures
  • Energetic, team player who is willing to get involved
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili, verbal and written
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Stakeholder engagement and relationship building
  • Flexibility to travel regularly, and to remote camps in Kenya and Tanzania
