A leading safari and adventure group specializing in providing unparalleled wildlife experiences in some of the most breathtaking locations across East Africa, is looking to recruit a Human Resource Manager, to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
The HR Manager will play a crucial role in implementing strategic HR policies and processes across the Group. This role involves managing industrial relations, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements, overseeing recruitment and onboarding, and managing day-to-day HR operations. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of HR metrics and analytics, and the ability to engage and develop staff across all levels and business units. He/She needs to be a responsible, approachable and trusted individual who is seen as a “go to” person. Experience in the Hospitality sector is a MUST!
Duties
- Cascade strategic HR policies and processes developed by the Group Director to line managers and staff, ensuring consistent application across all properties.
- Manage industrial relations, ensuring adherence to collective bargaining agreements and maintaining strong relationships with unions in the hospitality industry.
- Lead recruitment efforts to attract and hire top talent, ensuring a seamless onboarding process to provide a positive employee experience from day one.
- Oversee day-to-day HR functions, including leave management, attendance tracking, recruitment, and contracting.
- Collect and analyze HR data to generate comprehensive reports and present HR metrics to leadership, supporting data-driven decision-making.
- Implement and cascade performance metrics, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Develop and execute employee engagement initiatives to enhance the employee brand and reduce attrition rates.
- Support or lead the development of learning and development strategies at the operational level, promoting a culture of growth and development.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations across East Africa, adapting practices to meet legal requirements.
- Oversee payroll processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely distribution of employee compensation. Collaborate with the finance department to address payroll discrepancies and ensure adherence to financial regulations.
- Coordinate HR functions across different business units, ensuring alignment with overall organizational goals and strategies.
- Manage and mentor a team of junior HR staff, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or HR certification is a plus.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar HR management role, preferably within the hospitality or related industry.
- Strong understanding of labor laws and industrial relations in Kenya
- Ability to read and interpret collective bargaining agreements and ensure compliance.
- Excellent analytical skills and proficiency in HR metrics and analytics.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence staff at all levels, with a focus on improving employee engagement and reducing attrition.
- Experience in developing and implementing learning and development programs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel to different properties as needed.
- Proven ability to manage HR functions across multiple business units effectively.
- Experience in leading and developing a team of HR professionals.
- Excellent communication skills across cultures
