Our client, A safari group with a number of camps in Kenya, is looking for a to be based in the Masai Mara/Samburu. The successful candidate will be responsible that all day-to-day operations of the Safari Guide Department are conducted legally, safely, effectively, and efficiently in line with all the camps, Conservation, Community and Commercial principles. He/She will be responsible for conducting guided safari experiences that are unique and in line with the camp’s brand standards thereby ensuring the guests have an exceptional wildlife experience. In addition, he/she will conduct full and effective safety briefings to all guests on Vehicle Behavior Requirements, Health and Safety and Wildlife interactions. Previous experience in a big five reserve and 5-star camp or lodge is an advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures the highest quality of game experience for the guests.
- Hosts guests in line with the camps Standard of Excellence.
- Always shows an exceptional appreciation and sensitivity to the environment.
- Ensures that guest and staff safety is always a priority.
- Communicates with Front of House staff to ensure the best possible experience for guests.
- Conscientious maintenance and care of vehicles and related equipment.
- Carries out administration duties timeously and effectively.
- Undertakes a process of continuous education of self and other members of staff.
- Assisting the head guide with the management of the guiding team.
- Achieves service excellence through teamwork.
Qualifications/skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Wildlife or Bsc. in Range Management or any other related discipline.
- 10+ years’ experience in the hospitality industry with at least 5 years’ experience in a similar position in safari destination facility or sustainable tourism sector.
- Valid First Aid Certificate, defensive driver certificate
- Gold or Silver Certification and registered with KPSGA and any other relevant global professional bodies.
- Good knowledge in management information systems, good IT skills, and any front of house software including superior command of Ms Excel and Ms Word Outlook
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team.
- Effective communication skills Fluent English and any other foreign language
- Result oriented, able to plan, drive and execute strategic initiatives from start to finish.
- Leadership ability, particularly as regards assisting tour guide team to operate to maximum effectiveness.
- Capacity to train and develop the safari guide team, developmental approach to the team.
- An inherent passion for observing, sharing and learning about wildlife.
