Our client, a high end lodge in a conservancy, is looking for a passionate and hands on Workshop Manager.

The successful candidate will be responsible to oversee all aspects of the workshop operations to be able to deliver an exceptional support service to the wider team. Working closely with all the department heads, the Workshop manager will be instrumental in delivering high quality time and cost-efficient support to all departments. The Workshop manager is accountable for monitoring the quality of equipment, maintenance and general upkeep of the workshop as well as for the security of company items.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify areas where maintenance is required and deliver time and cost-efficient management of any projects.
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities in the Workshops are maintained and in good working condition and maintain an inventory of the same
  • Control and coordinate all workshop activities
  • Manage fuel dispensing and consumption and prepare monthly fuel returns
  • Maintenance of all Conservancy vehicles and equipment
  • Oversee and organise the general grounds maintenance
  • Maintain the electricity supply across the conservancy.
  • Delivery of all water production, metering, treatment & distribution
  • Management and maintenance of all roads, dams, fences, infrastructure and projects.
  • Ensure work safety through compliance with occupational health and safety requirements and use of PPE
  • Create a positive and motivating environment for the team
  • Facilitate training and give in-the-moment feedback to the wider team
  • Effectively manage the performance development programme for all team members.
  • Take part in the recruitment process as necessary
  • Ensure planning of team leave schedules
  • Manage the departments’ personnel records in conjunction with the Human Resources.
  • Preparation of yearly and monthly budgets for the department and being accountable for the same.
  • Establish strategies to maintain and improve product or service quality. Implement quality control measures, conduct regular inspections, and ensure the workshop team adheres to quality standards
  • Create strategies to manage and control operational costs
  • Consider the environmental impact of the operations and ensure a high level of sustainability,
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols and compliance strategies to ensure a secure working environment

 

Qualification/Skills                                                          

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a workshop setting.
  • BA(Hons) in Engineering or similar field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisor / management position
  • Previous experience of working in Africa / East Africa is essential.
  • High standards of service excellence and passion for the industry and conservation
  • Experience in managing and leading a team of technicians and support staff
  • Understanding of operational & maintenance procedures
  • Strong leadership abilities
  • A developmental approach to employees
  • Ability to embrace & lead change
  • Exceptional English & Swahili
  • Excellent management skills and effective communications
  • Financial management acumen and good computer literacy
  • Attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
  • Assertiveness & patience
  • Ability to keep calm in stressful situations
  • Knowledge of basic labour laws and disciplinary procedures
  • Follow the development of the hospitality & tourism industry including being aware of current trends, is and added advantage.
  • Experience and ability to implement effective operating procedures
