Our client, a well-established sisal plantation with operations in Kenya and Tanzania is currently seeking to recruit a Workshop Manager to be based in their Kibwezi plant.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the workshop activities, ensuring the smooth functioning of machinery and equipment, and leading a team of technicians in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate should have five years experience of managing a busy vehicle workshop or machine shop engaged in the repair and servicing of agricultural or related machinery including tractors, lorries and other vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate workshop operations to ensure efficient and effective production processes.
  • Manage a team of technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to maximize their performance and productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and implement measures to promote a safe working environment.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability.
  • Oversee the procurement and inventory management of spare parts and supplies necessary for workshop operations.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of machinery and equipment to identify and resolve any issues.
  • Monitor workshop performance indicators, analyze data, and implement improvement strategies to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and inventory levels.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proven experience in workshop management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment used in a manufacturing plant.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Solid understanding of safety regulations and procedures in a workshop environment.
  • Proficient in maintenance planning, spare parts management, and inventory control.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
