Our client, a rapidly growing commercial goat production company based in Central Uganda, is seeking to recruit a Farm Operations Manager.
Specializing in hybrid meat goat production, the company currently manages a herd of 5,000 goats with plans for further expansion.The successful candidate will be responsible for translating strategic objectives into efficient, hands-on operational execution across the farm. The ideal candidate must have prior experience in commercial-scale agricultural production. Experience in livestock management, particularly goats, will be a significant advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with senior management to translate strategic goals into actionable farm-level plans.
- Oversee day-to-day execution of all production and operational systems.
- Serve as the chief authority over all on-farm operations and ensure directives are executed effectively.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of 70+ staff, fostering performance, accountability, and cohesion.
- Oversee all aspects of production operations, including breeding, nutrition, animal health, housing, stocking density, and grazing management.
- Co-develop and manage farm operational budgets in coordination with the finance team.
- Monitor cost drivers, identify efficiencies, and ensure resource use aligns with growth and financial targets.
Qualifications:
- Relevant Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience in a management role in commercial agriculture with time spent in senior operational leadership.
- Executive-level leadership with hands-on operational capacity.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to make data-driven decisions.
- Effective communicator, capable of managing both field-level teams and reporting to senior leadership.
- Independent, proactive, and adaptable in fast-changing environments.
- Committed to performance improvement, team development, and long-term farm success.
- Resilient and mature, with the ability to operate in a remote, high-responsibility setting.
- Comfortable working in multicultural environments and rural East African settings.
- Comfortable with living on-farm, willing and able to work outdoors regularly and operate motorbikes/quadbikes as needed.
